Shenzhen Metro: Laojie

This UNOFFICIAL Guide to Laojie Metro Station has twelve sections:

Chinese name:
老街地铁站 (lao jie di tie zhan)

Metro System Map

Description:
Laojie Station is the 3rd station from the east end of Line 1 at Luohu, and the 13th station from the current west end at Shijie Zhichuang. It provides access to the young, swingin' Dongmen shopping district (which, ironically, is also Shenzhen's oldest shopping district).

The station has the most confusing exits of any in the entire Metro system. As you move away from the station, leave a trail of breadcrumbs if you ever hope to find your way back--or carry the BuzzCard below and use it to find the station again.

Note: This is a two-level station. Down one level from the gates is the
train to Shijie Zhichuang; the second level down is the train to Luohu.

*If you're going to Shijie Zhichuang, there is no "down" escalator; you'll need to take the stairs. There is, however, a long escalator to the lower platform, to Luohu. If stairs are a challenge, try the elevator near the south end of the paid area (toward Exits A and C), or take the long escalator all the way down and a shorter one back up to the Shijie Zhichuang platform.

Conveniences:

Elevator to Street Level None; and as you'll see below, only Exit B has easy escalators all the way from the gate level to the street
Restrooms None; and Dongmen itself is not very "toilet friendly." Try a McDonalds or KFC.

Kiosks None, but head to Exit A for anything you need

Exit Location ESC up ESC dn Stairs
A

Exit A emerges into a bazaar of shops and kiosks; it has multiple exit doors, but here are the two main ways:

1. After taking the first long escalator, continue straight ahead; when you run into the wall, make a u-turn to the left and go up another narrow escalator; one more u-turn and you're on the busy north side of the building, near Jiefang Lu

2. After the first long escalator, turn right at the stairs and you'll emerge on the relatively quiet street on the south side of the building

B On Jianshe Lu just north of Shennan, far from the madding crowd, and not far from the post office on the corner Y Y Y
C The worst of all exits; walk an interminable corridor, and enter an unfinished basement. Signs tell you you can take one exit toward Dongmen Walking Street, the other toward Shennan Lu. Both are stairs all the way, and both are inside Baihuo Plaza. N N Y
